Skye in Focus travel

By air
The nearest airport is at Inverness, about two and a half hours drive away. It is served by British Airways flights from London Gatwick, Edinburgh and Glasgow (www.britishairways.com), and by two budget airlines:

Easyjet (www.easyjet.co.uk), flying from Luton, Gatwick and Belfast.

bmi (www.flybmi.com), flying from Heathrow.

The alternative is to fly to Glasgow and then take the CityLink coach
(a rather long but very scenic journey).

Connections by coach (to Broadford) and by train (to Kyle of Lochalsh) are available from Inverness city centre - see below for link.

By road
The most convenient way to get to Skye is across the bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh to Kyleakin. Alternatively, you may catch the car ferry from Mallaig to Armadale (www.calmac.co.uk) or from Glenelg to Kylerhea.

Skye in Focus is situated in the township of Ard Dorch, between Dunan and Luib, about six miles north of Broadford on the main road to Portree.

By train
The nearest station is at Kyle of Lochalsh. Trains run to and from Inverness, where there are connections to other parts of the UK. It is now possible to look up train times and buy tickets online at
www.thetrainline.com or www.scotrail.co.uk.

By coach
There are regular services to Skye from Glasgow and Inverness. These are co-ordinated by CityLink (www.citylink.co.uk). For details of coach travel from other parts of the UK, and to research times and buy tickets online for all the UK services (including those to Skye) contact National Express coaches (www.nationalexpress.co.uk)

Car hire
If you are hiring a car, this is probably best done at Inverness Airport:
www.1car1.com, www.europcar.co.uk, www.avis.co.uk, www.hertz.co.uk

If you are travelling to Scotland by train, you can hire a car in Kyle of Lochalsh (just the other side of the bridge from Skye): www.lochalsh.net/taxi
