Odonata - Dragonflies and damselflies

The damselflies that can be found on the Isle of Skye are:

Large Red (Pyrrhosoma nymphula)
Widespread and common.
Habitat: standing or very slow moving water.
Seen: May to August.

Common Blue (Enallagma cyathigerum)
Widespread and common.
Habitat: standing water.
Seen: June to mid-September.

Blue-tailed (Ischnura elegans)
Widespread but not common.
Habitat: standing water.
Seen: May to early September.

Emerald (Lestes sponsa)
Widespread and common.
Habitat: well-vegetated standing water, ditches and loch margins.
Seen: late June to September.

Beautiful Demoiselle (Calopteryx virgo)
Only found in Sleat.
Habitat: burns and rivers with stony bottoms.
Seen: late May to late August.

The dragonflies that can be found on the Isle of Skye are:

Common Hawker (Aeshna juncea)
Widespread and common.
Habitat: standing water.
Seen: July to October.

Golden-ringed (Cordulegaster boltonii)
Widespread and common.
Habitat: upland burns, moorland and woodland rides.
Seen: June to mid-September.

Four-spotted Chaser (Libellula quadrimaculata)
Widespread and common.
Habitat: moorland bogs, ditches and ponds.
Seen: May to August.

Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum)
Widespread and common.
Habitat: ponds, lochs and very slow-moving burns.
Seen: July to mid-September.

Black Darter (Sympetrum danae)
Widespread and common.
Habitat: moorland pools and bogs with plenty of vegetation.
Seen: mid-July to September.
