Place
Welcome to the Skye in Focus online gallery, which is dedicated to bringing you exciting, high quality images of the Isle of Skye, a place of spectacular landscapes located in the Inner Hebrides off the north west coast of Scotland.
Skye is believed by some to be the most beautiful and romantic island in the world. Certainly it is the most celebrated of Scotland's islands, attracting many thousands of visitors each year. Many of those visitors come to see and climb on the great mountain ridge of the Cuillin, one of the most evocative sights in Britain and regarded by many as the finest single chain of mountains in Britain. Rising straight out of the sea to a height of over three thousand feet, this is a mountain landscape of magical light and rapidly changing weather conditions. Norman Collie, one of the first to climb in the Cuillin, described a 'secret beauty born of the mists, the rain, and the sunshine' and it is this combination which makes photography on Skye such a challenge but at the same time such a rewarding experience.

The
Photographer
I am lucky enough to have been a resident of Skye since 1996 and have seen and photographed it in all four seasons, but I still find myself marvelling at the many different moods that it can exhibit. Moods that I find myself irresistably compelled to record on film.
I photograph in colour and monochrome, choosing the film that best suits the conditions on the day. I use both 35mm and medium format equipment.

The
Photographs
Prints of all the images are available by mail order or by visiting us at the Skye Picture House, Ard Dorch, nr. Broadford, Isle of Skye. The prints are all produced by hand, using traditional darkroom methods and techniques.
