March on the Isle of Skye

2 March 2024 Collected from the bridge at Kinloch (there were five or six of them). There is no other species that appears this early in the year.

3 March 2024 I put out some water traps a couple of days ago. This is what I've caught so far:
A fungus gnat (Mycetophilidae)	A fungus gnat (Sciaridae))
Chironomidae (A non-biting midge)	Possibly Lauxaniidae based on the venation

7 March 2024 Photographed some of these at Kinloch and then found some more when I returned home.

8 March 2024 When I was photographing the flies yesterday I spotted a springtail. I went to look for it again this morning and found 4 or 5. I then checked out my water traps and found something new - a Wood Gnat/Window Gnat (Anisopodidae).

26 March 2024 My first hoverflies of the year - only one species, but lots of them. When I checked on NBN this is the fourth time I've seen Tachina ursina.
