Urophora jacaena (Picture-winged Fly)

A species of fruit fly or tephritid responsible for galls on Centaurea nigra.


18 July 2017 . . . . Over 80 moths in and around the trap this morning. There were 28 species of macro moth and 3 micros. The Snout was the only macro moth that I hadn't seen before.

Symphoromyia crassicornis (Moorland Snipefly)


25 July 2017 . . . . Another first record for Skye - spotted walking from my car to the house!

It feeds on umbellifers. This one had just hopped off the Angelica on to a neighbouring Holly bush.
