The PlaceWelcome to the Isle of Skye, a place of spectacular landscapes located in the Inner Hebrides off the north west coast of Scotland. Skye is believed by some to be the most beautiful and romantic island in the world. Certainly it is the most celebrated of Scotland's islands, attracting many thousands of visitors each year. Many of those visitors come to see and climb on the great mountain ridge of the Cuillin, one of the most evocative sights in Britain and regarded by many as the finest single chain of mountains in Britain. Rising straight out of the sea to a height of over three thousand feet, this is a mountain landscape of magical light and rapidly changing weather conditions. Norman Collie, one of the first to climb in the Cuillin, described a 'secret beauty born of the mists, the rain, and the sunshine' and it is this combination which makes photography on Skye such a challenge but at the same time such a rewarding experience. |
The PhotographerPhotography has always been a passionate interest of mine, and for the last 20 years I have specialized in the landscapes of upland Britain. In 1995 I became an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society, achieving this distinction with a panel of landscape photographs. Since 1996, I have been a resident of Skye, running regular workshops and getting to know the best locations for photography. I have seen and photographed the island in all four seasons, but I still find myself marvelling at the many different moods that it can exhibit. Moods that I find myself irresistably compelled to record with the camera. Most of my work to date has been shot on film, but I am now working on a brand new portfolio of digital images.

The WorkshopsCreating effective images of the landscape is one of the most challenging but also the most rewarding branches of photography. Our one-to-one photography workshops give you tuition in all aspects of landscape photography and are tailored as much as possible to your specific requirements in terms of length and subject matter. If you would prefer to join a group workshop, let us know and we'll do our best to arrange it. A workshop typically includes an analysis of your previous attempts at landscape photography, a discussion of the equipment required and technical issues that need to be addressed and a practical session concentrating on composition. This can be followed at a later date by an analysis of the pictures which you have produced during your stay on Skye. If you require B & B accommodation for the period of your workshop, we recommend the Skye Picture House. If you prefer self-catering, go to Otters Leap.
The price of workshops is currently £120 per day. To book |
